Law of Attraction- we have the ability to mold and shape various areas of our life, based on how we choose to think, believe and feel.

In my previous article on this blog I had briefly explained about ‘New Thought Movement ‘or ‘New Thought’ which is a spiritual movement started in U S during the late 19th century and this movement particularly promotes spiritual and metaphysical beliefs. One of the most dominating ideas of this movement has been the law of attraction which says that everything that’s coming into our life, we are attracting into our life. And it’s attracted to us by virtue of visualization/images we are holding in our mind. ‘The predominant thought or the mental attitude is like a magnet, and the law is that ‘like attracts like’, consequently the mental attitude will invariably attract such conditions as correspond to its nature’ (Charles Haanel’s quote from ‘Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne, 2006) In other words what you think about the most or focus on the most will appear as your life.

William Walker Atkinson (1862– 1932), an American pioneer of the New Thought movement, explains that when a human thinks about anything then he unconsciously produces those mental vibrations or energy vibrations, but generally those vibrations are week, unfocused and dispersed and therefore eventually lost. But if we become conscious of these mental vibrations and start focusing to give those thoughts the force available in our mind, they can achieve a required power. He further says that

When an idea or feeling is produced in a human being's mind, the force generated in the brain in the form of mental energy waves expands in the environment that surrounds this person up to a distance proportional to the energy generated. These mental waves are capable of activating similar vibrations in other peoples' minds that enter their field by following the laws of mental influence.

Atkinson's theory of mental waves is well supported by the modern research in the field of neuroscience and psychology, especially the experiments that endorsed the fact that thoughts and emotions induce increased temperature of certain regions of the brain. The heat stimulates release of energy, and all the energy is liberated through vibration waves/mental energy.

The law of attraction which has been central idea of New Thought Movement is also explained by modern physicists. According to quantum physics, the science of subatomic particles, everything at its core consists of pure energy and everything both the physical and metaphysical (unseen world) is intricately interconnected with everything else at this level of causation which is continuously vibrating mass of pure energy. Quantum physics has also established that we, as observers, have a direct and very real effect on the nature of reality. The moment someone observes or looks for the position of one of these subatomic particles, everything changes. At that moment they will suddenly convert from energy to observable particle/matter. It is therefore clear that these subatomic particles did consist of waves which behave and turn into particles based on the individual thoughts or beliefs of observer who conducts the observation.

In other words, we quite literally have the ability to mold and shape the various areas of our life, based on how we choose to think, believe and feel! In this way we are quite literally the creator of our own reality! If we desire to change the events, conditions and circumstances in our life we only need to change the thoughts, beliefs and emotions that are responsible for bringing them into and making them our reality. Quantum physics therefore corroborate the famous saying that “we alone are responsible for the events, conditions and circumstances that make up our life. Whether or not we choose to discover and accept it is also our choice”.

As we all experience that a thought lasts only for a few seconds, if this thought is focused and repeated, it generates more energy and power. Neuroscientists also tell us that each thought creates hundreds or even thousands of new neural connections in our brain. The power of attraction states that this is how we attract circumstances matching our thought images. Therefore there is another scientific explanation that any well-focused thought that is repeated often generates impressions of the desired reality in the subconscious mind.

The staunch proponents of New Thought movement especially positive thoughts as well as medical research in the field of neurology and psychology have established that most people normally employ very low levels of concentration or focusing. Thus, it is possible that our capacity to concentrate or focus is more than what we generally employ. Therefore one must learn and practice techniques of deep concentration and meditation, as this will make us exercise our mental power. (‘Beyond The Secret’ by Brenda Barnaby). Our mind has the capacity and ability to change the reality around us but that is thwarted by our own inability to trust the power and keep doubting it. Those who practice creative visualization and positive thinking consistently with sustained attention and focus, they can witness results themselves.
